Job description: SP Industries, located in Hopkins, MI, is seeking a Machine Builder to join our team. Machine Builder – Build Equipment That Makes a Real-World Impact
Are you a hands-on builder who takes pride in seeing a machine come to life? Join our team and play a key role in assembling and delivering high-quality waste handling equipment used across industries. In this role, your craftsmanship, attention to detail, and technical skill directly impact the performance and reliability of every machine we ship.
What You’ll Do
You’ll work with electrical and hydraulic systems from the ground up—transforming schematics into fully operational equipment.
  • Assemble and wire electrical components including motors, PLCs, and control panels
  • Install and integrate hydraulic cylinders, hoses, and power units according to schematics
  • Complete final machine assembly to meet quality and production standards
  • Test, troubleshoot, and ensure systems perform safely and efficiently
  • Operate forklifts, cranes, and aerial lifts while following all safety and LOTO procedures
  • Partner with engineering and production teams to improve processes and build smarter
What You Bring
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics and blueprints
  • Strong wiring, soldering, and mechanical assembly skills
  • Working knowledge of PPE, LOTO protocols, and equipment safety standards
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams

Fabrication Welder – Build with Precision, Weld with Purpose
Are you a skilled welder who takes pride in craftsmanship and precision? In this role, you’ll be responsible for fabricating and assembling high-quality weldments while maintaining a strong focus on safety, accuracy, and efficiency. Your expertise will play a key role in producing custom equipment that meets exact specifications and exceeds customer expectations.
What You’ll Do
You’ll play a hands-on role in building high-quality products while driving safety, precision, and efficiency.
  • Interpret blueprints to lay out, assemble, and weld components to exact specifications
  • Execute high-quality welds in multiple positions using a range of fabrication equipment
  • Ensure accuracy and quality through precise measurements and inspections
  • Maintain a safe, organized work environment while following all safety protocols (PPE & LOTO)
  • Support production flow by handling materials and keeping work moving efficiently
  • Collaborate with your team to solve problems and continuously improve processes
What You Bring
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
  • Experience with welding and fabrication equipment and processes
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or on a team
  • Self-motivated mindset with a willingness to learn and improve
  • Ability to obtain and maintain forklift and overhead crane certification
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
  • Ability to work in various positions (kneeling, crouching, overhead, etc.)
